The Story of an Hour

In this short story where is the climax? Find out the conflict/s first!

The main conflict of The story of an Hour is…
a. An effort of a wife to find out her identity after
the death of her husband.
b. An attempt of a wife to find out what her feeling after
the death of her husband.
c. An attempt of an happy wife to get her rights after the
death of her husband.

In this story Mrs. Mallard got hesitation in her mind. She wondered whether she had to be sad as what most people would feel if their relatives pass away, or she had another feeling.
When she’s thinking about it alone in her room, her mind and soul kept asking what she had in mind.

There’s something came to her, a feeling that she tried to refuse but she failed. She couldn’t deny it till the words suddenly spelled from her mouth; free….free….free.

Still she kept wondering what was it? …
When she came with conclusion after she was assure her self that indeed she’d loved her husband, sometimes, but often she’d not.

Once more with a little confidence the words came up….
“Free body and soul free”
She had made up her mind then.

So what is the answer?

What happened to Mr. Mallard?

When she heard about the news of her husband, without recheck the truth, with a little shock she then abandon her self in her room. There she sink her self in a deep thinking.

What Mrs. Mallard felt first?

She felt shock at first that’s something to be sure, but what come to her mind a little while letter is a surprising event that she’s never think about.

What she’s doing in her room?

In her room she continuing rethinking about what happen to her life with her husband and what would be her feeling and her life without her husband.

What she felt when she looked out of the window?

After she looked out to the cloud and the patch of the blue sky, she found as if something came up off the sky and catch her. Something that she afraid of, even just to think of it. A strange feeling that possessed her latter and she couldn’t afford to refused it. The feeling that make a strength instead of weak, and release her burden.

What she thought of her husband or about their married?

Still in her room she recalled her memory to the days with her husband. She opened the files of her time that from her mouth escape an expression which she conclude even thought she has loved him, but that’s only sometime, she felt that she has not loved him.

What she decided about her feeling?

Considering to her thinking in the room that her mouth has escaped the words ‘Free..Free…free and then continue “Free..body and soul free’ she decided not to be sad anymore. Even she will face the years to come with open arms.

What she looked like when she went out of her room?

She went out of her room without any burden and there’s a shining look with trump in her eyes indicating that she didn’t have something to be worried of.

What happened then when she looked at the open door when someone was coming?

With her full feeling and confident, after she locked her self in the room or after she decided her feeling, she could not stand to face the reality which only less than a minute she felt a little release she had to see the fact that what she had thought or got for the future will be lost forever. That’s really make her got shock…a big shock.

What do you think of the doctor diagnose?

The doctor wasn’t there where she heard the news, the doctor wasn’t in the room and he didn’t feel what she felt during the times she was in the room. All the doctor knew about her, of course the fact that she’s got hard trouble before. So when her husband survive from the accident, the doctor diagnosed that she got heart attack because she felt too exiting to see her husband alive, or of joy. In this part that the diagnose is inaccurate.

SETTING

The objective of analyzing setting is to find out the relation between the story and the setting.

To find the relation, we have to find out ht efunction of the setting in a story.

The setting and the story have close relation. Actually, the story has something to do with the setting.

If the setting changed, there will be significant effect to the whole story.

The conflict is external conflict; Man vs nature.
